11.10.2010: Stray.gr- Where we stand

We would like to inform all the friends of stray.gr about our current situation.

As you may know, last spring our organization was forced to stop offering assistance to new requests. This was due to the very bad financial situation that occurred after our rescue of the animals of two illegal puppy mills (Dervenochoria and Alepochori).

 

  Even though after great efforts we were successful in managing the first incidence, by finding families to adopt most animals, the second one proved to be much more difficult to handle, with legal issues involved.  Meanwhile, these animals are growing up, which makes them less easily adoptable. Some of these had poor health, due to the terrible living conditions and as a result the cost of their medical treatment has been mounting.

Our organization is, therefore, focused on the effort of securing funds for these animals, by organizing charity events, bazaars and asking for donations. Our member volunteers have exhausted their pleas to friends and supporters but also their own endurance.

The welfare of these animals costs over eur4000 per month. This is obviously too big an amount to be sustained despite the efforts of volunteers and friends of stray.gr.; needles to say, without the support of whom it would be impossible to go on. However, the monthly expenses are huge and cumulative and the state offers no proposals or solutions to the problem. We therefore have no option but to wait for the final verdict that will determine these animals’ faith.

Stray.gr is continuously receiving appeals for stray animals in need for help, which is the result of the indifference of the municipalities to obey the law and follow a program for strays’ relief. Consequently, we are unable to take on any more financial burdens and having to say “no” is for us extremely painful.

We want to thank, with all our hart, all those who have helped us and are continuing to do so, because without them, we simply could not have made it.

We are carrying on with you on our side, we cannot make it alone; and even though we are embarrassed to ask for more support, we do need it so desperately!
